Adding '51 Bumpers To an S-10 frame - not easy
This is really weird. The rear bumper brackets are not parallel...... Neither appear to have been bent- they are exactly the same. Doesn't really matter, Will weld in new mounting anyway...UPDATE: ! ! HAHAHA.. hey ya'll, I did not have anything to drink before I confused myself about this picture/posting.... Those brackets are on backwards!.. swapping left to right and right to left but then since they were bent, more adjustments were required......ahahhaha
Properly adjusted to match curvature of splash pan. Driver's side bracket welded/bolted in. I'm rather disappointed in two issues with this "aftermarket" (Chinese) bumper. In order to get the bumper to match the curvature and constant spacing on the splash pan, the ends of the bumper tilt up a few degrees, and there's a 1-1/2" gap between the bumper ends and the side of the car. But I can't do anything about that .........oh well.....I'll live with it.....By the way I learned that welding slag will ignite human hair rather easily. And it stinks a lot............
This is the rear bumper bracket, passenger side. Requires some explanation .. the '49 Frame has welded nuts on the inside of the frame that are spaced at 4-1/4" apart. The '51 brackets have two holes (one round, one slightly slotted - as in this picture) that are spaced 5" apart. The slotted bracket hole is to mount to the "front - of the car" hole, Unfortunately, after drilling through these SPRING STEEL (whew) brackets, the bumper came out mounting 1/4" to 1/2" TOO FRIGGIN' LOW. Redrilling with a COBALT DRILL is the only way to get through these spring steel brackets.....
