The Bewick's Wren family !
A pair of Bewick's Wrens chose to raise their family in the little birdhouse hanging on my porch about 10 feet from my kitchen door. I moved my security camera (Blink) to capture their activity and have been astounded at what I have learned.
Both parents work HARD at keeping those babies fed. A few videos catch them both feeding the younguns..From daylight to dark, they relentlessly find bugs and spiders to feed the kids. I first saw the eggs on June the 2nd and the first activity I saw after I moved the camera to the birdhouse was June 16. Check the video titles for other dates as I add them.
Why aren't the nests filled with baby poop? The babies lay "eggs" of their own, but really are "diaper pails" that the parents grab and dispose of elsewhere. The last video is one of the mama bird actually grabbing the "poop sac" out of the babies BUTT and flying away with it. I am not kidding, people.
I will be adding more videos nearly every day until they fly away.. so come back often to check on the progress !!!
UPDATE: I'm sooo sad to report that sometime between Saturday June 27 and Sunday afternoon June 28, the babies disappeared. I did not have the security camera activated, so I have no way of knowing what happened. I AM suspecting those DAMNED Gray Squirrels that I have seen around here lately. Yes, they are carnivorous and aggressive, not like "regular" squirrels... Makes me soooo mad.....
Second UPDATE.
It was probably a ringtail cat. Scroll down to the very end of the videos to see what the camera saw...
