Fixing Exhaust Cut-outs

Here is one mistake that I made with the exhaust system. The cut-outs stick down waaay too low, so a new plan is necessary.

As it was, I only had to cut the exhaust pipe in one place to remove the cut-out portion, which has 2.25" inlet and outlet, and a 3" branch flange and a 2" crossover connection to the other exhaust pipe. The other two connections are stainless steel clamps.

The parts I just got to fix the situation. One 3" "U-Tube", 3" clamps, 3" "loose flange" connectors, 4' of 3" aluminized tubing, and new gaskets.

The plan is to rotate the branch connection so that it's horizontal (not sticking down at all), cut off the flange, add a 37.5 degree elbow, and extend the exhaust to the rear of the car past the muffler and mount the cut-out electric valve behind the muffler.

Fabbed up with the butterfly valve "temporary" in position. The weld on flange at the end is a "slip flange" that rotates on the pipe so I don't have to worry about the exact position of the pipe and mount the motor/butterfly where ever clearance is best.

Ready to go back in. Notice that when I rotated the branch, it screwed up the alignment of the crossover, so it had to be notched and repositioned by about 40 degrees so it stays in the same relative location to the connection on the other exhaust pipe. Lots of measuring and tack welds to get all the angles correct, since this piece connects to three other pipes and the long part has to clear things next to the muffler...

In the process of moving the cutouts, I had to rotate the exhaust pipes slightly. Then my crossover pipe got out of alignment, so I had a muffler shop Bend a piece of 2 inch pipe at 24 degrees to put the crossover back in.
