First mention of my Dad, Hilary Paul "Dilly" Gerdes. 1928. He was 14. Eventually, she married Mr. Montgomery, and they were our next door neighbors, and were best of friends.

April 26,1930. Over 12 inches of rain in one day, 3 to 4 feet of water all over the city. Casper's gin, on Chiltipin Creek could not possibly survived.

VIDEO ! Of the site of the Retama Gin Company/C. Gerdes & Sons Gin 7 miles south of Sinton, in "Sodville" . The old Sodville school will be on the left at the beginning of the ground view of the video. Also, three different dates are observed in the video as it plays. Looks like power cable is being installed as the view switches from the road that went in front of the gin. Now it's just a pale memory of my Dad's years of hard work, my and my brother Steve's first jobs, and lots of other memories.
Just a little story .Glad the Mexican and colored children and chauffer are mentioned..
April 1932 - Casper gets into the cornmeal business and puts Gaylord Adolph (Dick) in charge. He was just a kid.
