Mysterious Leak - Hot Tub
About one drip every 5 seconds, and it doesn't matter if the pump is running or not. So the conclusion is that the leak is at the interface of the tub body and a penetration of one of the jets. After multiple checks at different water levels, it seems the culprit is one of the lowest three jets, two small ones and one large on. As it turned out, that was not important, as the leak was stopped with the use of "Stop-a-Leak"....Which I learned about from a Facebook friend, Tom Bendure.
Closer view, BUT, yesterday with the level at the top of the two lowest jets (after silicon applied to perimeter of the mounting flange) and the water level was nearly covering the large FLIPPY-FLOPPY stupid large jet on the right, the leak appeared again. Note that I had lowered it a few days before to about this level and it stopped leaking.
Don't know exactly how this works, but it DOES !.. UPDATE: It worked for three days, then began leaking again.. another try coming up...SECOND UPDATE: After three tries, I've decided this stuff doesn't work so well. The solution is very grainy and slippery. I guess the grains are supposed to stick together when they get crowded up in a leaky area...Ended up using the entire bottle in three tries
This is the third/forth round of trying to get the hot tub sealed, and it seems to have worked with this stuff.. Going on nearly a week, and there are no leaks. Raised the temp to 100 degrees ,,,, let it cool off to about 80, raised again to see if it would start again (temperature expansion/contraction of piping/joints), but no leaks. used only about 1/2 of the bottle... Before using any sealer like this, remove the filter and put the cap back on so that it doesn't clog up the filter and make the solution ineffective.
Since the instructions said to "pour solution in the area of suspected leak if you think you know where it is", I made up this little device using something I found in the garage and siphoned the solution all around the lowest three penetrations and made two passes at them, two small ones on the north side (nearest from this view) and the large one in the north-east corner. plus just for the hell of it, I also applied around the four other small ones above the lowest ones.
