More Jaguar IRS Problems/Fixes
Read MoreThis is the cause of the failure of the system - the culprit. The stock Jaguar Thrust Bushing on the bottom of the lower control arm has/had failed, and shifted sideways. This was caused by not only the angular forces on the bushing due to acceleration, but the twisting forces from the other end of the thrust arm that rotates on a different axis. BUT, the center of rotation for the thrust arm is necessary for the entire assembly to rotate as a unit and not bind. This is on the driver's side, looking toward the rear.
At the top, the original Snow White rubber bushing joint which does not allow any twisting that was mounted on the fixed end of the thrust arm, and as the wheel/hub move up and down, it keeps the arm from twisting, causing undue stress on the bushing on the hub. Below is the 5/8" x 5/8" Heim Joint with shims and spacers to mount it in the place of the rubber bushing. The sleeves were trimmed down to 1.5" to fit the mounts, and 1/2"x 1-1/2" washers were used as additional spacers to snug up the assembly to the mounting.
