Replacement of Shower and Bath Renovation
Read MoreDelta tub spout.......VERY unique spout design. the Adapter can also be soldered onto a 1/2" copper pipe. The O-ring seals via a smooth cylinder inside the spout, and the outside threads on the right hand end of the adapter screw onto threads inside the spout...so that there is an inch available to cause the spout to snug up perfectly with the wall surface .
Now to the meat of this thing... you can see the notched and "edited" 2x4 side supports for mounting the new valve and tub spout pipe support. The galvanized pipe feeding the shower head was not removable, as the installer used at least two steel straps to hold it in place inside the wall, so it stays.
Even with designing the supports on my Sketchup 3D drawings, there was not enough room to install the 1x4 support, so part of the board had to be cut out and instead of using a wood screw on the lower valve bracket, I had to make a steel plate with a small nut and bolt to secure it. The galvanized pipe here is the feed for the other bathroom shower head, and the brass part on the left is the shower valve for that other shower.
After getting the valve and spout piping done, then I took it all apart again to get the PEX fittings tied into the water supply. The loops are to avoid any stress on the fittings, as PEX pipes expand and contract quite a bit with temperature changes. Final lower board in place to support the concrete back board for tile installation.
Decided that I'll be adding a white trim around the bottom of the walls at the tub, as the old pink pieces were cracked and coming off the wall. Googled the hell out of various "mid century" tile suppliers. Didn't find a single vendor that had anything even close. Also since it's all torn up, the bath is getting a new 36" vanity, new faucet, a new toilet and glass door enclosure! Stay Tuned !
