The Interior
Read MoreSeat belt mounting points (three 7/16" bolts and window trim installed. Don't worry about the short SS strip, the back seat covers it, and those strips cost me 20 bucks a foot.......The wrinkle at the rear of the window is pulled out when the package rack is installed, and that is a shadow above the pillar light.
FINISHED passenger side, except that the dang door opening handle "stud" is too short. The panel I made is 1/4" plywood and the foam base and pleats are a bit thick. The window opening handle will probably work out ok, but I had to order another set 'cause I can't find the ones I already bought, dang it... Another problem here is the windlace at the front of the door is binding on the door panel, making the door hard to close, so I'll be taking the SS strip that holds the kick panel in place and moving it all toward the front of the car just a little bit.... It's always SOMETHING.........The wrinkle in the headliner behind the rear window will be ok when the package rack is slid into place. And that's a shadow above the interior light fixture. 12/22/2016
Passenger side is complete except for the door handle. I have to duplicate the little stub extension for the driver's side before I attach the passenger's side. Had to also relocate the seat belt reel due to the back seat bottom not going as far back as I had planned on due to "puffy foam" around the bottom of the seat back and bottom. Lookin pretty good......
NEARLY in..Package rack and speakers in and wired, seat back went in fine, but the bottom of the seat is a different story.....That extra padding is making this really tough...Pushing with my feet is hardly making any headway.. May have to make adjustment to the latches on the floor that are supposed to catch two tabs on the bottom of the front of the seat.
The damn back seat bottom does not want to be installed. The 3" of foam padding around the bottom of the seat back and the extra padding on the bottom is causing significant interference. This plan with straps did not work. Took it back out, moved the floor hooks forward two inches and hooked the straps to the bottom edge to pull it back then with a little help from some old legs and feet it finally dropped into place.
Something is weird here.. The floor mounts for the front seat have a series of three holes (total of 12) to mount the seat frame to the floor either close, medium, or far back. I used the far back holes and this is with the seat adjustment all the way back but it still feels too close... This could be partially that the seats have so much foam in them. I may have to do some welding....
To get the trunk carpet down, had to remove the battery box, Solenoids, and fuse box, and clean the surfaces. Decided to make a "leveling platform" for the battery box, since the trunk floor in that area varies by about 3/4" and the box was distorted when it was bolted down. Used the 9/16" OD tubing to make a couple of spacers to level out the battery box platform. All will be covered with sound deadener, jute, and black carpet.
This penny was on top of the rear crossmember. I have NEVER had any loose change in the car.... Mom again, for about the 500th time....The first penny I found was in a dark corner of her attic after she passed away, I took a vacuum cleaner to a "side attic" to clean out the debris, took a flashlight for whatever reason to see what I was doing and under some fallen down insulation, on the floor of the attic, was a penny. When she was alive, as we would be driving down the highway, and things got quiet, she would say "Honey, penny for your thoughts"..... This has two meanings that I realized years later...
Finally got around to mounting the cover plate for the rear end. Using Dzus Fasteners, three holes for the catch, and three holes for the latch part. Eight locations, so 48 holes all have to be pretty much exactly lined up with each other. All worked out fine except the one on the right rear horizontal area. Cover will get a squishy gasket. Tomorrow I'll be doing some redrilling.....
